About Me

Alison Powell, RD, LD, CEDS-C

Hi, I’m Alison. I’ve been a dietitian for over 13 years, working in a wide range of settings including hospitals, long-term care, outpatient clinics, personal counseling, and multiple levels of eating disorder treatment. I practice from an “all foods fit” philosophy, helping clients find balance, enjoyment, and confidence in their relationship with food.

I’m a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Counselor (CEDS-C). My mission is to support clients in building a healthier, more compassionate relationship with both food and their body. I’m also passionate about mentoring dietitians and helping expand experience in an often underserved area of the profession.

Ensuring my clients feel heard is at the core of my work. I believe that goals should be shaped together, and I value a team-centered approach—collaborating with other providers to ensure cohesive, high-quality care. I also try to bring humor and lightness to sessions, making the process as enjoyable as it is meaningful.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me in the mountains, gardening, or baking. Although I’m based in Colorado, I’m often on the move and love connecting with clients from across the U.S. I'm available for sessions virtually or over the phone, as well as in person for exposure therapy sessions on a case to case basis for those in the greater Denver area.

Nutrition Therapy: Sessions often include motivational interviewing to explore your goals, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) informed strategies to address distorted thoughts and behaviors related to food, weight, and body image; and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills such as distress tolerance and emotion regulation to manage urges and support normalized intake. I also use Exposure-based interventions, Mindfulness-based approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) informed strategies to promote values-aligned choices. Lastly, for adolescents utilizing Family Behavioral Therapy (FBT) to educate family systems as well as the adolescent to ensure oversight and support.

Dietetic Supervision: As an approved Certified Eating Disorder Specialist - Consultant (CEDS-C) through IAEDP I can supervise Registered Dietitians working towards their CEDS Credential. I am also able to provide supervision for up to 25% of needed requirements for other allied health professionals: Doctors, Nurses, or Therapists.

Public Speaking and Presentations: I have provided numerous trainings and continuing education presentations for multidisciplinary teams. My goal is to make nutrition and eating disorder care feel clear, approachable, and clinically useful so providers can feel more confident supporting the patients they serve.
